Leicester Women's Velo Presentation Evening

Leicester Women's Velo held our first presentation evening celebrating women's cycling past and present. Christine Smith was our guest of honour and speaker. She cycled with De Montfort Ladies CC in 1951 and rode with Beryl Burton. A cheque was presented to our chosen charity Wheels for All.
Leicester Women's Velo Featured in Cycling Weekly

Chris Sidwells from Cycling Weekly magazine joined us on a 35 mile ride to Market Bosworth which was featured in the 4th June issue. The 4 page spread featured some of the members on the ride, the history of the club as well as the map of the route.

Circuits around Derby Velodrome

Members of Leicester Women's Velo visited Derby Velodrome for a Women and Girls' coaching session organised through British Cycling.
Everyone had a fab time riding the track and trying out our new jerseys!
Leicester Women's Velo on Sky Sports News!

As part of International Women's Day, Leicester Women's Velo led a ride to Rothley. We were featured on Sky Sports News who were highlighting various events around the country encouraging and inspiring women into sport. Our very own Lindsey Ball, Maryam Amatullah and Janet Hudson were interviewed on the day. You can see a clip of us in action here.
Maryam Amatullah Wins Unsung Hero Award

Maryam Amatullah, one of our committee members at Leicester Women's Velo, was named the unsung hero of the year at the first ever British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards. Maryam was presented with her award by Sport Minister Helen Grant MP at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Maryam has worked extensively to inspire women to cycle, especially those from ethnic minorities. As a cycle trainer, she has taught countless people to ride, and encouraged them to continue cycling with the British Cycling Breeze Network and Leicester Women's Velo. Read more about the awards here.
Janet Hudson listed in BikeBiz Women of the Year 2015

Janet Hudson, a Leicester Women's Velo member has had her work recognised in Bikebiz Women of the Year 2015, which lists 100 influential women in the industry. She has been acknowledged for her contribution to cycling including Leicester Women's Velo, Leicester Castle Classic and Skyride. The full list can be seen here.

The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust (JHMT) Sports Development received a grant to train 30 Sporting Clubs across Leicester in Emergency Life Saving (ELS) training. Leicester Women's Velo were able to take part in an informative session on CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
